Three perks of buying pre-owned vs new vehicle

There is a tendency to think of new vehicles and used vehicles for two different types of buyers, but this is not quite the case. Each option has undeniable advantages, but when we talk about used vehicles we are mainly talking about quality / price ratio and value. In other words, used vehicles usually give us more for our money and this is where they can be interesting, even if we initially had in mind to buy a new vehicle.

More specifically, here are three advantages of buying a used vehicle instead of a new one. There is of course the price and the fact that you save on depreciation, but also that it is easier to know the history of the vehicle and therefore have a better idea of its future reliability. Let’s take a closer look at these points.

Known history

The first interesting element related to the purchase of a used vehicle is the fact that it is possible to know its history. It is often said that new vehicles are more reliable than used vehicles, but this is far from the case. The used model has a history of maintenance and service. We know how it was maintained and we know the reputation for reliability of the given model. By purchasing a well-maintained used vehicle recognized for its reliability, one has greater certainty of its future reliability compared to a new vehicle. This is especially true when we are talking about a new, next-generation vehicle or even a brand-new vehicle for which we have no information on future reliability.

Used vehicles have already depreciated

As soon as a new vehicle leaves the dealership, it loses a significant percentage of its value. This percentage varies from model to model, but no new vehicle is immune. The used vehicle has already depreciated. If you buy a used vehicle for $ 10,000, tomorrow it's still worth $ 10,000. Its value will decrease as the years go by and the miles you use it, but that's it.

You can get more for your money

If you're on a budget of $ 10,000, there aren't any new cars that will stick to your wallet, but you can easily get a used compact sedan or even a used SUV. If you have $ 20,000 you can buy several new vehicles, but you can also buy a used vehicle with less than 50,000 kilometers on the clock with a lot more equipment than your new car which cost $ 20,000.

In other words, if you want a better equipped vehicle with a known history and which will not have to suffer the inconvenience of deprecation, opt for a used vehicle!
